Job Description
Canary Health Technologies’ builds cutting edge diagnostic sensors that help doctors recognize diseases earlier and help patients be healthier and happier.
Our Research and Development Department is seeking a dedicated candidate for a Scientist/ Junior Scientist Position working with a team of scientists and engineers on a variety of sensor projects. Work in the chemical detection area will focus on developing microfabricated and miniaturized sensor systems for the detection of chemical warfare agents, narcotics, and explosives. Sensor systems to monitor disease, infection, or the physiological states of biological systems will also be investigated.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Use miniature gas chromatography systems, micro resonators, ion mobility spectrometers, and other micro sensor technologies to develop detection systems.
- Perform system or component-level design, fabrication, and testing of sensor technologies;
- Analyze data using programs such as Matlab or statistical analysis software;
- Use laboratory-scale analytical chemistry equipment to validate system operation or identify target compounds in environmental or biological samples.
- Working as a part of the team in research laboratory and performing scientific research tasks requiring the application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria.
- Setting up the laboratory and equipments ensuring proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
- Planning and conducting test & experiments according to prescribed methods.
- Recording, analysing data, ensuring data integrity, quality control and protocol compliance.
- Presenting results to senior/other research staff.
- Researching & writing papers, reports and reviews.
- Preparing funding applications.
- Supervising junior staff including laboratory technicians.
- Ensuring that quality standards are met and developing original solutions to problems.
- Liaising with research and production staff.
- Keeping up to date with relevant scientific and technical developments and maintains knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology.
Skills
- Ability to develop and follow research methodology and protocol.
- Knowledge of scientific approach and methodologies & current technological developments/ trends in area of expertise. Knowledge of scientific research principles, practices and protocols.
- Ability to design, organize and coordinate scientific research projects.
- Ability to read, understand, follow and enforce safety procedures.
- Advanced user of Microsoft Excel and proficiency in other MS Office suite products, eg MS Word, MS Powerpoint, Origin, Sigma Plot or any other data processing tools.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken
- Self-starter, able to work independently
- PhD in Biosensors, Analytical Chemistry, Material Science, Engineering in related field / MTech with 3-5 years’ experience in Biomedical device industries, Clinical Diagnostic, Biosensor, Gas Analysis for Clinical or Environmental
- Experience with micro sensors, microfluidics, sensors, or biosensors;
- Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance
- Familiarity with microfabrication processes and procedures;
- Knowledge of chemical sensor coatings and surface modifications;
- Experience using analytical chemistry equipment;
- Finite element modelling (FEM) and computer aided design (CAD) experience;
- Proven experience in the design, fabrication and testing of portable sensor systems;
- Programming experience in Labview, Matlab, or C;
- Experience in laboratory ownership including writing procedures and detailing environmental, safety and health related items.
